The campaign of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has made suggestions as to why Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is steering clear of public discussion.
According to the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization, Tinubu avoids participating in national debates out of concern for the probing questions that Nigerians may ask.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the campaign’s spokesperson, claimed Tinubu is worried Nigerians will question him about his alleged history of corruption, allegations of proxy treasury robbery, blatant incompetence, and ethnic prejudice.
“Tinubu is also aware that he cannot face the public to answer questions bordering on his past, particularly the query on his ancestry, the Alpha-Beta tax controversy, and his claimed control over the business, politics, and lives of Lagosians from 1999 to date,” claims Ologbondiyan.
“He is afraid of being exposed for defrauding Lagos State for eight years through a series of onerous tax regimes with nothing to show but a brawl-based form of rule, the breeding of touts, and the development of criminal street gangs, only to turn around and try to claim the accomplishments of succeeding governors as his.
Isn’t it odd that Tinubu, who calls himself a progressive, avoids debate despite the fact that this is a key component of progressivism?
This is after Tinubu skipped the Arise TV presidential candidate discussion and refused to send a spokesperson.
Atiku, who was not there for the discussion, sent Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, while Tinubu did not send anyone.
Speaking on his absence, Tinubu said he was busy with other engagements; hence could not appear for the debate.
