A 94-year-old Iranian man who was known as “the world’s dirtiest man” after going decades without taking a bath has died.
On Sunday, October 23, Amou Haji, an unmarried man who had gone 67 years without taking a shower, passed away in the village of Dejgah in the Southern Province of Fars.
Due to his dislike of soap and water and fear of getting sick, Haji quit taking showers.
In addition to being filthy, Mr. Haji detested eating and drinking fresh things. He preferred eating and drinking from rusty oil cans, and his favorite food was rotten porcupine.
Haji, who lived the majority of his life in the village of Dejgah, also enjoyed using an antique pipe to smoke animal dung instead of tobacco.
However, a few months ago, worried villagers who were sick of his untidy appearance compelled him to use the restroom and wash.
After learning that he sleeps in a hole in the ground, they also constructed him an open brick shanty to dwell in.
The strange lifestyle of Mr. Haji was initially revealed in the 2013 short documentary “The Strange Life of Amou Haji.”
