Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Ltd., or IVM, a local carmaker with its headquarters in Nnewi, has shipped the first batch of automobiles it produced for the government of Sierra Leone.
The vehicles were made to order by Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Defense and landed in Freetown on November 21, 2022. The top echelons of the Sierra Leone Defence Ministry, led by Mr.
Edward Soloku, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation, SLRTC, led by its President, Mr. Isaac Ken-Green, made the request for the made-in-Nigeria vehicles during a working visit to Innoson Vehicles.
Innoson Group’s Head of Corporate Communications, Cornel Osigwe, stated in a statement that the numerous car models purchased during that administration were for the current administration.
Following that, according to Osigwe, the President Julius Maada Bio-led government of Sierra Leone placed an order for the production of Innoson cars worth $4.7 million for the officers of the RSLAF.
On Monday, the first shipment of automobiles sent from Nigeria to Sierra Leone departed from Queen Elizabeth 2 Port in Free Town (also known as “Water Quay”) for distribution to military officials all around the nation.
