This is the incredible tale of a woman who, after having raised 13 other children by the time she was 65, gave birth to quadruplets.
When Annegret Raunigk miraculously gave birth to quadruplets at the age of 65 , she created history.
Despite experiencing a few issues in the early weeks and months following the birth, both the mother and all of the babies were able to leave the hospital totally recovered and in perfect condition.
Because the premature kids were born underweight and required incubator care for the first week after birth, the doctors had already expressed concern for their health and survival.
Even if the infants did live past the first few years after birth, they had also anticipated potential permanent health problems for them.
The authorities had confirmed that the babies had grown unexpectedly quickly and healthily in a very short period of time, though, at the time of Raunigk’s departure from the hospital.
The mother then went back to her house where her 10-year-old daughter Leila was ecstatic to see her new brothers. The oldest child, who was now 46 years old, was one of Raunigk’s 17 offspring.
“I like children – they keep me young … You get more tolerant the older you get.”
Many had termed her desire to get pregnant at the age of 65 as madness at that time. But the proud mother had explained that it was not about “egotism or selfishness.”
To get pregnant, Raunigk had traveled as far as Kiev, Ukraine, where she used a donated egg and donated seed to inseminate herself. It was a process that had been illegalized in her home country, Germany.
Speaking further about her historical pregnancy, she had stated that it was her daughter Leila who had planted the idea in her. Leila had apparently said: “I want a brother or sister!”
So it was another surprise for little Leila when her mother gave birth to four siblings for her to play with.
