Police in the Ugandan district of Buikwe are looking into how prison warder Otim Jacob, 28, killed his wife and a coworker. According to information obtained, the event took place on Monday, October 31, in the late afternoon at Bugungu Government Prison in Kanfunta, Nyenga Division, Njeru Municipal Council, and Buikwe District.
Residents who spoke to Uganda Monitor under the condition of anonymity claimed that Jacob had suspicions about his wife having an adulterous relationship, which may have led to this occurrence.
We ran to the prisons when we heard gunfire this morning and discovered two dead bodies there. The suspect, a prison warder, and his wife, also a prison warder, got into a fight, according to Mr. David Onyango, one of the witnesses. leaders in the area said.
Eunice Abwot, 25, and Edward Namanya, 30, both prison warders employed by Bugungu Prison in the Buikwe District, were the victims, according to Ms Hellen Butoto, spokesperson for the Ssezibwa Regional Police, who confirmed the event.
“The suspect was later detained at the Njeru Police Station while the inquiry is ongoing. The deceased’s bodies have been transported to the mortuary at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for an autopsy, she continued.
The incident was also confirmed in a statement by the spokesperson for the Uganda Prisons Services, Frank Mayanja Baine.
He claimed that Wader No. 16734 Otim Jacob, who later attempted suicide but was restrained by other employees on duty and imprisoned, shot the two jail guards to death.
The statement claims that the suspect Otim obtained a gun early in the morning to perform general tasks, but instead went to the sentry where he shot and killed Abwot before shooting and killing her colleague Nahamya when he ran to see what had happened.
